We are individuals in the community, many of us residents of Alameda, native New Mexicans, coming together to protect the land we love. We believe Alameda should remain rural and are working to protect our beloved homes and surrounding areas from further urban encroachment.
As such, we have organized and established a non-profit organization to work to benefit and protect Alameda, its people, and a rural way of life.
We are currently facing two proposed large-scale builds in the area and have decided to take action against this type of development within our community based on safety, traffic, land-use, environmental and other concerns such development would bring to the area and negatively impact our already stressed community.
This current appeal is regarding the 9600 2nd Street Appeal - County Commission case No. ZCOA2026-0013
The appeal challenges the County Planning Commission (CPC)’s July 1, 2026 Notice of Decision (NOD) that upheld the Zoning Administrator (ZA)’s approval of the conditional use permit (CUP) for the Islamic Center at 9600 2nd Street NW. However, the arguments in this appeal are not limited to the words on the Notice of Decision (NOD) alone.
The appeal draws from the full record — including the certified hearing transcript, hearing testimony, the application, the approved site plan, staff statements, traffic materials, emails between the County and the Appeal Coalition, County rules and procedures, evidence in the County record, and all exhibits filed with the Board of County Commissioners (BCC). Together, these show whether specific Notice of Decision (NOD) findings and conditions were met at the Zoning Administrator (ZA) level and the County Planning Commission (CPC) / Board of Adjustment (BOA) level, whether the Notice of Decision (NOD) itself contains errors, and whether those findings were erroneous, an abuse of discretion, or unsupported by evidence.
In plain terms: the Commission’s decision is being challenged not just on what the Notice of Decision (NOD) says, but on whether the evidence in the record actually supports what the Commission decided.
A hearing date for this appeal has been set for October 14, 2026.
This current appeal has been filed and is regarding the 221 Homeland Road NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114 - Case No. ZA2026-0107
The appeal challenges the August 2026 Notice of Decision (NOD) that upheld the Zoning Administrator (ZA)’s approval of the conditional use permit (CUP) for the Hindu Temple at 221 Homeland Road NW.
This is an initial appeal.
We are also exploring a more permanent fix via introducing a moratorium to halt further larger scale development within the area.
The mission of this appeal team is to protect the community of Alameda and the surrounding areas based solely on legal codes/zoning/laws and common sense. This appeal was brought based solely on land-use concerns.

The Appeal Coalition was formed to address genuine land-use concerns — not in opposition to any faith community. Anti-Islam or anti-Muslim beliefs were never a reason for creating, joining, or pursuing this appeal, and they are not the Coalition’s beliefs.
We recognize that some people/groups unknown to us may be in support of the appeal for reasons we do not share. We cannot know every person’s private motive unless it is disclosed. However, anyone whose purpose includes religious hostility does not speak for, represent, or are to participate in this official Appeal Coalition.
The Coalition’s position has always been limited to the administrative record and the applicable standards for this proposal’s scale, traffic, access, safety, compatibility, and process. We support equal application of those standards to comparable religious and nonreligious assembly uses.
